Hanley Park – The work forms part of the £5.8m Hanley Park restoration project, and is supported by the Heritag...

One unexpected plus from this week's rain has been the scene in Cauldon Grounds as restoration work begins.

The Hammersley Fountain basin has been full of soil for many years, but will now be restored to its former glory - and to working order in time for next summer.

The lining is in fairly good condition and holds enough water to offer us a reflection of the fountain's past and a glimpse of its future.

The structure will now be carefully dismantled, with new terracotta pieces made as required and a fresh pump and pipework to bring the cascades back to life.

The work forms part of the £5.8m Hanley Park restoration project, and is supported by the Heritage Lottery Fund and Big Lottery Fund through their Parks for People programme.
