In Spring, our education gardener Julie Dougall devised and launch an initiative whereby school pupils in our Kauffman Education Garden helped to grow sunflowers for sale to visitors to the estate, with proceeds to be donated to aid those in, and fleeing, Ukraine.

The Prince's Foundation's Sunflowers For Ukraine initiative, which saw Julie and her pupils supply a stock of grow kits and fully-grown plants to our estate’s Visitor Centre, subsequently raised more than £700 for the British Red Cross.

Those who purchased sunflowers were asked for a minimum suggested donation of £2, but many kindly gave more. The sales of plants yielded a healthy £731.92 donation to the British Red Cross.

The sunflower is the national flower of Ukraine and we hope it can signify better days ahead in more than one way.
