Your gut is your gastrointestinal or digestive tract and the journey starts from when you eat food to when you get rid of waste. “Gut health” refers to the overall health of your digestive tract.

The gut in essence is ever complex but in essence gut health is used to refer to the balance of microorganisms that live in the digestive tract or your gut microbiome. The microbiome is responsible for things such as...

Aiding digestion
Absorption of nutrients
Regulating things such as bile & vitamin levels

So how can you keep your gut healthy, well there is several ways to help with this such as...

Eat more healthy whole foods. Particularly important here is FIBRE, found in nuts, whole grains, pulses, fruits and veg!
Cut back on processed foods. Generally high in salt, sugar, fat and disrupt the microbiome
Eat regularly and slowly. Eat standard portions and have a regular eating pattern.
Reduce your stress levels. Stress effects the body in general but can disrupt your gut health so try and relax.
Sleep well. Poor sleep can effect metabolism and digestive processes.
Prebiotics and Probiotics. Probiotics are healthy bacteria and prebiotics feed healthy bacteria. There is evidence that such things to encourage better gut health.
